What is Internet and World Wide Web? Interactive Discussion on HTML, URI, URL, HTTP and DNS Domain Name System.

What are the basics of internet and world wide web| Brief Discussion on HTML, URI, URL, HTTP and DNS.

Jim was standing outside their whitish blue Mercedes Benz car waiting for his dad. He suddenly saw the door opened with a blipping sound. It seemed an uncanny phenomenon. He thought some invisible angel did it as it was dictated in the fairy tales. Off course  it was the fantasy but now-a -days this is the reality. This is a phenomenon by the remote control network and it is found in different electrical and electronic appliances like TV, AC, refrigerator, fan, light etc. These smart devices are increasing day by day even as drones and allied accessories. Among all these devices, the most important electronic machines are the computers or micro processor control devices spread across the world.

What is Internet?

It is basically the interconnectivity of all these electronic devices and machineries around the globe and even to the universe. Computers and allied machineries are either connected to a modem (Modulating and demodulating device) through a cable wire or wirelessly (Wi-Fi).

World Wide Web MDWIX

The major function of the internet is the data and resource sharing among all these computers. This modem is connected to a local internet service provider who then connects it to national network and all these country wise network form the internet backbone. Now-a-days by advent of smart phone, internet is being widely used as indispensable online tools for education, creativity, social communication, media distribution and ecommerce.

What is World Wide Web (WWW)?

Data base or information is written in such a way that it can be easily transmitted through wire or wireless communication and coded via modem. These pages are attached in the internet in the form of web or net. So it is called webpage. These web pages are accessed world wide through internet communication. The world wide web in short 'www' is the ocean of information stored in the form of inter linked web pages or web resources such as text, audio visual  or graphics contents. Earlier all these resources are handled by individual log in to individual computer but now it can be accessed globally through world wide web communication. The data base is stored in host server.

There are billions of internet users world wide even mom gives the hand set phone to her younger child while feeding him or her. The kids happily take their feeding while seeing you tube or face book videos. All these videos are stored in America. Very few know how this interesting feature happens possible. In the year 1990, the British computer scientist, Mr. Tim Berners Lee invented three fundamental technologies that lead to creation of web. These are i)  Hypertext Mark up Language (HTML), ii) Uniform Resource identifier, iii) Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP).

HTML: This is a very basic and easily transferable machine language that is used to design a standard webpage. This web content can be easily read and understand from any computer.

URI: Uniform Resource Identifier is a unique address or path assigned to individual resource in the web. This is also called uniform resource locator (URL). Each web page has a unique URL.  Example as  https://www.mdwix.org or https://www.mdwix.com   or https://www.mdwix.in

HTTP: Hyper Text Transfer Protocol is the set of rule that governs the retrieval of inter linked web pages. It is gradually developed in a most secured manner. At present it is suffixed with 's' and represent  with 'https' for enhanced secured websites.

Domain Name System(DNS): Every device connected to network is assigned with an IP address. On the other hand every web page is stored in the web server. So every web page has assigned to the corresponding server IP address. To find out any of the webpage in the network, it is needed to put the IP address of the server. Since the IP address of any device is the combination of number and strings,  for human beings, it is very difficult to memorize all these numbers and strings rather than reminiscing the names of any websites that contains the web page or web resources. So every websites are named with a comfortable nomenclature. A DNS server manages the name of the website's and the corresponding IP address of the hosting server. So any query in the web browser is asked for any website by it's name, it sends the signal to DNS server to retrieve the IP address of the hosting server and then the signal passes to the desired hosting server. Web hosting server sends the web pages via http protocol.
